Turkey Tanning ?

Submitted by JOE on 05/12/2004 at 19:46. ( ) 63.105.65.6

After I have skinned out and fleshed my turkey, what is the best way to preserve it? I thought about using liqui-tan, but wanted some other opinions before I jump in. And also do I need to pickle it like a deer cape? Thanks!

Where did you come up with Liqua-tan for birds?

Look through the archives there is a lot of info and it don't include Liqua-tan!

You don't need to tan birds. Just skin, flesh, wash, and dust with Borax.

You can

You can tan turkeys with lutan-f...just follow the directions as normal. However, they don't mount up good when tanned because the skin never really dries hard like it does if you use borax. Also, look into liqua-cure. I have no experience with it, but it may work.

Liqua-tan works

I have experimented with turkey skins using liqua-tan and the skin has stayed pliable for over 7 years now. I have never mounted it that way, but the skins I have look good.
