your supplier (exporter) will need to fill out an export permit and a cites animal export permit. The cost is $190 USD for both and both are needed.

sure, you can lie, but your exporter could get 10 years and 100,000 fine, it's not worth it. The pelt would get confiscated, you'd not get it, as well.

point your exporter to http://www.fws.gov/

US Fish and Wildlife (federal) website

Check the Ministry of the Environment website in Canada - specifically the Canadian Wildlife Services branch and see if you need to obtain a CITES import permit. And yes you will have to pay all duties and taxes unless the shipper properly fills out all NAFTA forms. Also you will need to check witht he Quebec MNR as it may be illegal for you to purchase any bobcat part. In Ontario for example all hides must be tanned or we can't buy them...

....You will need an export permit. This applies to anything going out of the country. Call USF&WS in Arlington VA, sorry I don't have the number right here to give you. I will try to find it and post it later. You want to contact the Office of Management Authority.

I found this out a few years ago when a customer of mine bought some tanned skins to take over to Australia for a friend of his. Included were an otter and a bobcat, so I volunteered to conact the USF&WS to see if he needed anything. I was told by the OMA that ALL skins, even non-protected species(coyote and fox, in this case) needed a permit to leave the country. It would have taken 30 days to get the permit paperwork, although at that time it was free of cost. He was leaving in less than a week, so that was out of the question and I dropped the inquiry. I found out later that he just rolled up the hides in his luggage(remember they were tanned) and took them with him. He had no problem leaving the country or entering Australia and his bags were looked at both cases and the people who examined them didn't care. That was close to ten years ago, and as you know, the climate has changed at our airports.
