First Deer Mount

Submitted by Tad on 05/22/2004 at 11:27. ( ) 68.95.123.54

I am mounting my first deer! I am excited about it! I have a question on form choice. My cape is 6.5 X 15. The form I want only comes in a 6.5 X 13, 6.75 X 14, or 7 X 15. Which one do I choose? I am mounting a Whitetail Doe. Please help me with this issue where I can get started. Thanks

Tad, I think the 6.75 x 14 would be your best bet. Having a little extra skin in the neck will make the whole process go much smoother. It is also nice to have abit of extra in the nose to eye, as well.
Good luck with your first mount. I can assure you that it will get easier as you do more.

hey Adams i guess you don't do much with a measureing stick seeing how if you have a eyes to nose measurment of 6.5 and your saying that he will have a little extra on the nose with a 6.75 your not telling this poor guy the right thing seeing how 6.75 is 1/4 of and inch bigger than 6.5

go with

go with the 6 and 3/4 and cut out the 1/4 or so you dont need.
You will see that this is normal procedure for most of your mounts.
Altering forms to fit is going to be the difference between a good mount and a problem with drumming etc. Good luck

You are right "...", 6.75 is 0.25 longer than 6.5, didn't mean to mislead anybody, just having a case of temporary dyslexia, I guess. Thanks for pointing it out.
