Confused ... as usual

I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between tanning a mammal and tanning a bird. Couldn't be that different. Looked in the archives, books, and chemical labels ... all say different steps. Some leave out pickle, etc. I muddled threw this pitiful little quail, and I guess it's tanned, but who knows? Glad my first mount wasn't this weird, I would have given up! I have transpar degreaser (does the smell ever go away?), skin prep, & bird tan. Can you use safety-acid on birds? Could one of you bird folks give me a general idea of the "steps" you use and what would work best for me.

Moisture?

I live in a really damp, coastal area. I was worried that my mounts would pick up too much moisture, over time, and degrade. Wrong?

They should be fine

I doubt that it will be too much of a problem so long as they aren't kept outdoors.
