hi guys i would like to ask for your opinion.which is more real life-like; a mount with open mouth showing its fang and tongue or a closed mouth one.which one is more difficult to do and which of the two is more in favour?in the long run, does the closed mouth one wins because constant viewing of the mount with closed mouth looks as if the animal is relaxed and alive rather than an open mouth one which really is unreal as animals dont open their mouth 24hrs a day

I like the closed mouth and a relaxed position at any time. The only time I'll like the open mouth is if the predator is over his prey and you can se that's it's protecting it. To me a relaxed mount will always hold to be the best mount. When it's looked at all day long a person doesn't get tired of looking at it.
I think alot has to do with the pose of the animal your mounting. I think an open mouth mount should be doing something to have its mouth open, like grabing at prey or picking a leaf to eat or even licking itself. I personaly don't care for open mouth shoulder mounted deer. But a life size is another story if its in motion doing something it would normaly have its mouth open doing. Not everyones eyes are pleased by one certain type of mount. You have to decide on the pose and the expression you are trying to achieve with the mount. If its for a customer then let them decide. Just my thoughts. Jack F
Hi Ted, if this mount is for you, do one of each and then you can decide. One will be easer to do than the other. Or look at all of the photos that you can on the animal you are doing and pick the one you like. If 8 out of 10 guys here would say that they like the open mouth, would you mount it that way? What ever pose you choose, remember it will be that way "24 hours of the day" My opinion, closed is best, I like relaxed, hogs, snakes, wolves, bears I like open.
