Salinity level in an acid pickle

I know that in pickling a deer hide, the ph level is supposed to be maintained at a 1.5 to 2. However, I don't know what the salinity level is supposed to be. Does anyone know? I am using saftee acid in my pickle if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help.

Use a Salinometer!

You will have to purchase a Salinometer to measure the percentage of Salt dissolved in your pickle. Its simply a long glass tube that you place in your solution, and wherever the solution crosses the graduations on it as it floats, it will tell what percentage it is.

Using 1 Lb. of salt to each 1 gallon of pickle - I typically read between 40-43% on mine. If it's lower - simply add more Salt.

I think..........

I'm not sure but I think around 40%. I havn't done much tanning so far so don't take my word for it. I'm interested to see what others say as well.

Thank you
