I just got started in taxidermy and I want to go out and catch fish in my area to practice mounting but I do not know the proper way to freeze fish. I would appreciate any help. Thank You.

For a whole fish: Find a cookie pan (with edges turned up to catch any water that might drain) or large plastic lid/container [to set in the freezer to hold your fish while it freezes]. Then take your fish and lay it out on a wet(not dripping) towel. Make sure the fins aren't crimped, fold the towel across the fish as to form a compact envelope around the fish. Place this package in/on the container to be put in the freezer. As this freezes, it forms an "ice pocket" to protect the fish from freezer burn.-Good Luck on your fish mount!-Susan
