Can I tell when EZ100 tanning is done?

I am trying to tan my first goat hide using EZ100. The instructions say to leave in the solution 16-20 hours and not to overtan. Is there some way to tell when it is done?

Make a small cut on the edge hide and look at it to see if it the same color all the way through. I use a magnafying glass to check.

Use Coyote's advice to check it for a good tan - but dont rely on PH readings! Some guys try to use PH pencils to get a reading - but remember that the reading you get on the out side of the skin may be different from the middle of it. It's not an accurate way to measure.

Follow the instructions. 16-20 hours. Obviously thin skins tan faster than thickly fleshed skins. But - why try to pull them early? Simply tan Muskrats, ermine or an Elk or Moose skin the same amount of time and that makes its easier. It will not hurt or damage the skins!
