Scorpion died can I preserve it?

My son has gotten interested in spiders and scorpions. His scorpion died. It is in a perfect position to be mounted on a board or placed in a see through container. Is there something I can use to keep it from decaying and keep it preserved for him?

I conventionally mount quite a few of them. A scorpion is probably the smelliest thing you will ever deal with if not preserved correctly. the rotting meat is putrid if not cured. I mount them by taking apart, cleaning out all the meat and reassembling like a lobster. You may be able to inject with preserve it to penetrate the exoskeleton, and then put in a jar of preserve it or formalin as a wet specimen, but since have not ever done any this way, can not say fr sure. i would be happy to mount it for you if interested

Freeze dry it

You can freeze dry it as well. It costs very little to freeze dry a scorpion and they do a really great job. You may be able to contact a local college if you happen to live near one and see what they would charge asthey will most likly freeze dry arachnids anyway.

methyl hydrate

Methyl Hydrate is a sort of camp stove alcohol. I have some Pandinus imperator (emperor scorpions - the big black guys) of my own that died in methyl hydrate. I simply plopped them into a glass apple juice jar and topped it off with methyl hydrate. I have an Israeli Gold scorpion done the same way as well. Going on 8 years with no problems yet. If you go this route you may want something prettier than an apple juice jar of course. I have a fair sized wet collection of preserved items that I'm not concerned with putting on display in the living room etc - so pretty vessels weren't my concern ;)
