How do I measure a hide? I have NOOO experience what so ever. I am doing a research project on taxidermy, and I need to know how you measure a hide. (the step-by-step process would be great) Please don't tell me to look at the archives, because I know nothing about this and the archives aren't going to help me if I don't understand what they are talking about. Thank You, sooo much for your time. I appreciate it! Thanks Again

research projects require RESEARCH. Click the orange button, type in "measuring a hide" or "measuring", you should get all the info you need. If you do not understand what you are reading at that point, you may need to check out a couple of books from the local library on taxidermy and do some RESEARCH on the fundamentals. Of course if that's too much work you can always purchase a reaserch paper on-line, put your name at the top and be done with "your" project.
Have you ever heard that you can RESEARCH, by asking QUESTIONS to people that are EXPERIENCED in the field. That's exactly what I am doing. I have already tried looking for REASEARCH INFO, but I would also like REASEARCH, from someone that is in the TRADE. So maybe you should check things out before you start critisizing people. Thanks!
typed into the search brought up 100 messages. Start there.
It sounds like you need a "visual" aide to understand this. Juat as a suggestion of course, why don't you order a supplier's catalogue-these usually have directions to measure the correct way for the forms that they have for sale. You know, like McKenzie's Taxidermy Supply or supply Mike Noonkester Supply's Taxidermy Supply.-Good luck!-Susan
I just DON'T understand why this "dang thang" has to re-arrange what I tried to say...-Susan
To measure a hide, there are several key measurements you will need to take.
Nose to eye-this is just what it sounds like, tip of the nose to the corner of the eye (inside corner)
Nose to the base of the tail-this is the measurement form the tip of the nose to the base of the tail.
Next-is the girth-usually taken from the middle of the body (this is a circumference measurement)
These are the main measurements. They are usually measured in inches. Some taxidermists make an additional measurement from the tip of the nose to the base of the skull.

I mailed you some links so you have a visual on how to do it. Let me know if you don't get it, Vic
Yes, I got your visuals. Thank you for your help and time, and thank you to the rest that have aided me in this forum. It's much appreciated. Thanks Again
