Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help answer these questions. Thank you to anyone for their time who responds...
1.) If an animal has been dead for quite a while (i.e. started rotting, will most taxidermists refuse to work on the animal?)
2.) What is the average cost for the taxidermy of a large dog (labrador or golden retreiver, perhaps).
3.) What sort of chemicals are used to preserve the skin? Are there any "household" equivalents?
In case these questions seem bizarre, I'm actually writing a story that involves a taxidermist.
Many thanks,
~N

No he or she should not. The mount will turn out bad at best but you might get lucky
2.) What is the average cost for the taxidermy of a large dog (labrador or golden retreiver, perhaps).
Depends on the area I would say abotu $1500 to $2500 depending on the Taxi.

The houshold Equ. is Borax. But this is an older way of doing things.
Question 1. Yes most would turn that job down. Chances are it would be a waste of valuable time.
Question 2. conventional taxidermy or freeze dry? freeze dry about $2,500.00, conventional around $1,800.00
Question 3. Borax would be about the only houshold preservative. I would reccommend tanning. To which I do not know of any houshold equivolent.
Question 1. No we should not take thing like that in it only causes a bad rap and word of mouth.and many others
question 2. freeze drying is and should be the only way we as taxidermist should do domestic pets ( nobody knows a pet like there owner) do to this the cost is much higher also dependeing on who you use, 1500 2500
question 3. Borax is one and vinegar is also use in what they call a vegetable pickle/Tan .thats about what I know
Thank you so much to everyone that's replied. Your answers are going to be really useful. Thank you for sharing your time, and your knowledge.
