Elk Antler odor

I bought a table which has an Elk antler base. They stink! How does one remove the odor, or how long do they maintain their odor? Thanks for the help.

The stink is a combo of natural odors, i.e. pee, sweat, dirt, blood, and anything else an elk is around. You can wash them, but you will wash off the color with it. I'm no expert, but I would wash them carefully with good ol soap and water to the point color begins to come off, then if not satisfied, coat them with a dull sealer, or urethane. Satan finish would look OK too. good luck

It's me again. Another thought, on every mount I do, I mix a 50/50 mix of linseed oil and white gas and wipe down the antlers, then wipe off the excess. Leaves a nice natural sheen, and darkens them a little too. I just did that on an elk antler mount I finished, and no smell. This would be better than a urethane or similar coating anyway.
