Yasmine, the true definition of a PELT is the coat of the animal. The piece of skin which is covered with hair or fur, is what is trully called a pelt. Although a wallhanger or dry tanned piece of hide used for decorative purposes is sometimes called a pelt, an actual definition is what i think you are asking for. When you say that an animal has a nice pelt, you are really saying that it has a beautiful fur covering, wether it is a mounted animal or a so-called wall hanger!
