Help painting mud fish(BOWFIN)

I've notice that mudfish in some pictures have adot on the tail, but in others you don't see a black dot, much like a redfish.
In larger specimens there are no markings while in others it is just an olive green with a dark back, what would you suggest I painted with light markings and showing a slight dot on the tail? or just a plain dark over light green?
What color are the eyes?
Thanks in advance.
Nico

It depends on the sex of the fish

The males have the more prominent dot etc. I paint them an offwhite to cream on the belly and greenish above. I use all purpose trout eyes made by flex eye. Use a very small eye.

I do pretty much the same as Cecil. For the spot at the tail I use 2 colors because there is sort of a halo with that spot.I will try to remember to check my paint schedule to see what those colors are and I will post them.

Thank you guys

I painted it by using references off the net and everyone thinks is gorgeous.
Even an old man who fishes them for fun loved it.
Thanks again
