i forgot to neutralize my hides after pickling them, they already have the tan on them? i did rince them off, but totally forgot the baking soda. did i screw up totally bad or not really? would love some input? thanks

The pH of a good pickle is 1.0 and a tan is 4.5, which is still below 7.0 (Neutral) For years, a pickle and a tan were interchangeable terms and hides never got farther than the pickle to begin with. I'd think your hide is going to be tough and harder to work with than if you'd used the proper procedures, but you'll probably escape THIS TIME. Be more careful in the future.
