Green tanning suggestions

I would like some pointers on green tanning. I currently green tan my whitetail deer. I would like better detail around eyes and lips. Drumming of the ears occurs once in a while as is slipping of the epidermis around the eyes. I am affraid to wash the cape prior to mounting, I had a hide slip on me once. For those of you who are successful using this method, what is you regiment, your routine?

Thanks for your help

Larry, there's no such thing as a green tan

The hide is either green or it's tanned. If you try to tan a green hide, you're going to end up with just the problems you described. With the simple paint on tans available now, there's no reason anyone can't tan.

NOW, if what you're really speaking about is Dry Preservative, that's NOT A TAN. Drumming is quite likely if GREAT adhesives aren't used in your mounting efforts.

i like to send my capes to the tannery, but it does have its drawbacks, i do use krowtann occasionally and have had great results
if its the whole salting drying pickleing thing your trying to eliminate, it dosnt get any easier than this, you still need to do proper prep work in order to eliminate the problems you speak of, but that goes with any type of tan you choose.

use krowtann period!
