I too am a beginner I just recently did a pheasant mount with a dirt and leave's base. All I did was use elmers glue mixed with the dirt. and glue the other stuff plants and moss on with elmers glue to. It should work fine. If all else fails super glue.
Get your self a hot glue gun and save yourself some time. Works great for ataching plants and rocks and sticks drift wood or what ever to your bases sets up faster to. Have fun Jack F.

mix water and elmers glue 50/50 and put in a spray bottle, spray your sand or dirt/moss and let dry, hot glue the rest of your forest products to the base.

to attach wood, rocks plants ect. use hot glue or 5 min epoxy. as far as dirt or sand use elmers glue, you can eather mix the dirt or put the glue on the pour the dirt on. for small gravel put elmers glue down in the pattern you want, then let it dry and shake off excess, then take elmers glue and dilute with water about half and half and take a small paint brush and dob it all over the rocks. after it dries it will lock any loose rock in place and will creat a wet look.
