I have a bare spot on a whitail cape about 1" x 3", i was thinking of cutting the place out and joining the two sides. Should i sew the sides together before i mount it, or use hide nails to hold it together after i pull it on the manikin? thanks!

Cut out the bare spot in a football shape then sew it up prior the mounting it. I always sew up all hole first, before any mounting is started.
