I will be mounting my first fish (a 21 in. rainbow trout)I am using the original head.Any way It has been soaking in Jim Allreds fish skin preserver & degreaser for several months.the jug says fish can be left in for years. My question -is there other soaks comparable?
ones that can be left in for long periods of time.I thought a soak like this would be benificial for oily fish & the extra time soaking
would draw the oils out.I have noticed some other soaks that calls for up to 24hrs. Any comments would be appreaceated!

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a gallon of denatured alcohol. See if you notice any similarities. Good Luck.
You said you're going to use the original head? BIG BIG MISTAKE!
A 21in. rainbow, as a matter of fact all trout, has a honey comb like structure in the head that needs to be removed. It's nothing but oil, and the original head will never make it. There is no degreaser on the market today thats going to remove this oil. A few weeks or months down the road it will start to smell for all get out. You can cut off the top of the head and remove this. Then rebuild it back with mache. Then your going to have to use some sort of Apoxie sculpt to finish it. Believe me, you're going to be a lot better off casting the head, or buying one.
