Brittle chalky alligator skull

I reciently purchased a large alligator skull. After looking it over I discovered that it is very brittle in a bunch of places and it is kind of chalky. Small shards of bone keep falling off. After lookin in the archives I saw that over boiling or bleaching can cause this. Is there any way to stop the bone from deteriorating? I want the skull to look as it does now (white and not glossy) and I want it to be preserved as best as possible. Also, there are a couple small discolored rusty colored spots on the skull. Could I use a little bleach to get rid of these or would this just cause me more problems and more discoloration? Thanks

Take a damp cloth and wipe down the skull, to remove the chalkiness. Then get some Grumbacher Tuffilm Final Fixative. And spray this on the skull. It's a matt finish, and non-yellowing.
