what's it worth- black bear?

I am considering selling my half-life black bear mount and need a ballpark figure on what to ask for it. It was just under 7ft and weighed 400lbs after dressing it out. I killed it 3yrs ago and got the mount back 2yrs ago. It has very thick fur with a white triangle on it's chest. The mount is upright wall mount. I also had the skull done which could go with the mount. If somebody could help give me an idea of what to ask for it I would be thankful. Tony

It depends

It depends on who you are selling it to and the quality in which it was mounted. Someone with a trained eye and a background in taxidermy probably woundn't give you 2 cents if the Bear was mounted poorly. Someone who doesn't know the difference in a good and a poor mount make pay you much more. The bottom line is if you didn't cheap out on the mount when you got it mounted originally, you will benefit now. Photos of the mount would be helpful.
Just curious, How much did you pay to get mounted? Wondering why someone would sell there mount only after two years?

Truthfully

There is not any real value to any mount. They don't go up in value like a house or certain antiques. Most of the value from a mount come from the person that shot the animal.

I pated @ $550 to have it mounted. I am considering selling with two years of wife prompting and complaining. The mount was done by one of the best taxidermists in our area. I didn't shop for price I looked for quality.

In our area the price of a half life-size black bear runs about 60% of the cost of life size mount, which is between $1500 and $2500 depending on the size of the animal, what your particular taxidermist charges, and the economic region in which you live. 60% of $1500 is $900 and 60% of $2500 is $1500 and You only paid $550 for what is generally considered a pretty nice sized black bear. Hopefully you ended up with a decent mount for such an economical price.

Of course those prices are for having the animal mounted. As was stated by Elvis, If the mount was not well done and of top quality you will be lucky to receive a fraction of what it cost to have it mounted. Good luck!
