Looking for some advice on Krowtann 2000. When I purchased the product, I was told that there was nothing like it in the market, as it made the best quality tan with less shrinkage and great plyable leather. I've used it, and can't complain at all. However, I have recently been told that the acid levels in Krowtan are just astronomical and can be detromental to the hide - long term. Is this true?

It's the alum that will eventually make your hide fall apart. Fortunately, in the time that takes, you probably won't see it anyway. LOL. All good pickles have a pH of 1.0. There is no number stronger than that. Krotann has a very strong sulphuric acid smell to it, but as I said, that's not the problem area. This has been discussed extensively in the archives. I would call Ozark Woods and ask Brian Harness any questions you may have on this product. I use it quite often, any my pH stays around 3, not too hot. Your water my have an effect upon the tan. Try getting some pH papers or meter and check it yourself. I actually dropped the last batch down below 3 using Formic Acid. Call Brian, he will know. Good Luck

Could you please explain that George. I'm confused about the "no number stronger than that" statement.
