couple of tanning questions

#1)what happens if you are tanning a skin for someone or have it tanned and there is hair slippage beyond repair? do you give the customers money back or keep it? then what tell them that they can buy another specimen or cape as a replacement?
#2)if you do your own tanning what sort of animals would you want to send out to be tanned? any specific species and why?
#3)if soft tanning for rugs is it the same procedure as tanning a deer cape for mounting, except after tanning you tumble it for a few hours in sawdust and check it everyday to stretch it and break the fibers? if so how many days does it normally require to break the skin? thanks for helping me answer these questions. -sean

#1 Your work is still worth payment even though the hiar slips, but you better make sure it was a problem with the skin and not the tanning proceedure. Also, you will need a contract signed stating this or you may not get paid.

#2 I personally do not like tanning spring bears. In fact, the last three that I have taken in all slipped badly, it was due to the care of the animal after it was taken. I send them out because I do not like ot worry about it. I also do not like ot try and tan large ungulates for robes, like bison. I send them out if I can. to large to do in a garage or small taxidermy shop.

#3 YEs and no. It could be the same tan, you would maybe oil the hide more. You would be breraking the hide as it dries, but there is no one time schedual. all skins are thinner in areas, and thicker in others. you have to break the skin as it dries. Experiance tells you when.
