had a kind of neat thing i blundered on to - pickled with safety acid then shaved and used McKenzie tan on coyote hide - was going to mount the next day so i put skin in refrigerator - got it out to mount and decided i need to clean skin up a little better on flesher - skin fleshed at least twice as easy as before refrigeration - has anyone ever made a concious effort to refrigerate after pickling and then shave?

..the other night. I had a back half whitetail hide I was using for practice on my flesher. I had it in the auto tanner with Krowtann for about a day, then i took it out, drained it, and let it sit in the fridge overnight because I was too tired to work on it that night. The next day I took it out and the flesher shaved right through that hide like it was butter.
Maybe it has something to do with the coldness locking the skin fibers closer togather as opposed to a hot "open pore" hide...I don't know...
Do you think it's the refrigeration that did it or the because you fleshed it after tanning. I never tried either.
I have found that all hides shave better after they have been tanned cold or room temp. Jack F
