I was out camping with friends and hit a rattle snake. Well i decided id take it go up to the campfire and skin it with a pocket knife. My friend chopped off its head and i just cut its belly open and skinned it. i've had no experience skinning anything before but it worked out pretty well. so now i've had he skin for 3 days and have left it out in the sun. I didnt do any other cleaning just skinned and let dry outside. now its stiff and has some crimps in it. Thats fine since i had no clue what i was doing. Now i'd like to see if i can make a wallet. I want to know if its possible to make a wallet with the skin or should i get another. also, what steps do you take after skinning the snake, and how do i skin it with the head on.

You just skinned it and then did not flesh it and put it outside in the sun for a few days, TOSS IT OUT! It is more than likely rotten, and I am surprised you cant smell it. Next time, buy the Rittels snake tan kit, and have handy for when you get your next one. If yopu get one prior, just toss it in the freezer till you get the kit and follow the instructions
