Virus survivor story.

Hey there Buddy,
Thanks for the tips on your web site that takes care of viruses. That day, the computer was acting like I was sending out e-mail when I wasn't. It would do it over, and over, and over again, and would not allow you to work.

So we down loaded everything like you said, and they found 10 infected files, including the one you told me about "My Doom". That one sucked. We let "Norton" run out a week or two ago as we didn't want to use credit cards any more. That was a big mistake. We're signed up again, and Norton found another 3 viruses the other didn't find. So in all, there was 13.

At any rate, thanks again for the info. We are now CLEAN! LOL
Have a great day buddy,
Dave

The above is a copy of an e-mail that I received from Dave Belanger, and has been posted here with his permission.

I had been receiving a lot of returned mail that I had not sent that was identified as a virus attachment.

I was able to pretty much narrow it down to two computers that were the probable source of these virus attachments. My e-mail address was being spoofed by the virus as the sender. Dave's computer being one of the suspicioned infected computers. I notified Dave, the end results, you just read in the above, with the exception that I am not getting back a lot of returned mail with virus attachments every time he fires up his computer now.

What Dave did to "clean" his computer was to go to www.hidetanning.net and take advantage of the FREE VIRUS SCAN. It would have cost him at least seventy bucks around here to have the same piece of magic performed in a shop.

There may be two more computers out there that is currently spoofing my e-mail address as the sender.

If you are in Ohio, and my e-mail address, and someone connected with the Ohio DNR, are in your e-mail address book, you might want to hook up for the scan on hidetanning.net.

If someone can tell me how in thee Hell Dave still has a functional computer, I'd love to hear about it!
Glen

The Free Virus Scan showed no viruses on my computer. I also use the Free Version of ZoneAlarm and something else (can't remember what now) Free to prevent PopUp Ads... Do I need something more? My computer is running fine with no noticeable problems...

sounds like yours is another case of the virus spoofing with your e-mail address. The virus will be being sent from an infected computer that has your e-mail address in the address book. If you're really lucky, you might get returned e-mails that show a send to address that you recognize as a shared e-mail correspondent with a friend. If you should luck out, notify the friend, and have them hook up for the virus scan.

Here's another FREEBIE that is a good one. You can do a seek and destroy on spyware with this one. Real easy program to set up and run, and EFFECTIVE! If anyone does any web surfing at all, download and install this one. It goes by the name of Ad-aware, and can be found at:

Let us know if you install and run it. You had HOW MANY tracking cookies planted on your computer!?!

Thanks Glen!

AdAware is the other Free program (that I couldn't remember in the earlier reply) that I had. It's better than GREAT! It initially came up with 160+ tracking cookies on my computer. Blocked Ads, etc. are well above 1100 now, and I've only had this program for a couple of months now. I received 2 more emails today w/virus attachments. I don't recognize the return addresses on any of them... have no idea where they're originating from...
