My blue crabs still have an odor after soaking in preserve it and drying for more than 6 months.Any idea why?

Take a Dremel and cut open the carapace underneath. Remove the meat and "dead men's fingers". I then spray a little air freshener inside and allow to dry. Then I fill the void with Bondo and a coiled end wire so I have a crabsicle. It's easier to paint that way and gives you an attaching wire to secure it with.
Steve, I mount Blue Crabs and I nuke them. I place them in the Micro wave for ten to twelve minutes. They will not explode and do this outside. I then soak them in 50% alcohol and 50% water with dry preservative for half an hour. I then pose them and let them dry for 3 to 6 weeks. There is hardly any odor at all. This may be the lazy way of doing it, but it works.
