hi im just starting to trap and skin coon and opossum . im good at those but i need to know how you treat or cure the pelts at home.

If you're going to sell the pelt to fur buyers they need to be air dried, and stretched. You can either stretch them on wire or wooden stretchers. They "MUST" be fleshed of all red meat and fat, before you stretch them though. You'll need a fleshing beam and knife to do the job correctly. Also "DO NOT" salt the hides.

Hey if you have acsess to a power washer forget the blade work it is the absolute best thing I have ever seen..Linda and Basil Cline showed me and I would NEVER again sit at a beam unless its all I had to.. Watched a coon done in only a couple minutes...She did my bear for me and not single HAIR was lost totally down to the folics..
Ive fleshed for 38 years now and Linda and Basil are the absolute fastest and BEST hide people I have EVER seen......
I'd like to add to Wally's post; don't go and buy any power washer, it needs to be one of the high end washers [2700psi or better].
Before buying one, I think you should rent one-first. Think about where your going to do this at;meat, fat and blood flying everywhere.[Flies, maggets and the smell],and as with a knife the washer will cut a hole just as fast without Practice.
This is not what you do on the driveway in most neighborhoods.
I kinda think after you finish cleaning up the mess; the time you save isn't worth it.
and yes i own a power washer
