I just bought two moose antler sheds. They are pretty big and pretty nice. I really want to mount them right but I want the satisfaction of doing it myself. How do you suggest I do it? Is there a place to buy "kits" or directions. I am pretty handy considering I build houses for a living. Thanks. Jeremy

Jeremy,
Check out our website at www.walnutcreekhardwood.com. We have a moose antler mounting kit, that seems to work great for our customers. All of our panels are made out of solid oak or walnut. Give me a call at 800-945-9663 if you have any questions or you can order on-line. All of our antler mounting kits are laser engraved, and come with everything needed to do yourself.

I use a piece of all-thread rod and drill a hole in the bottom of the antlers up maybe 3-4" or so, then epoxy a piece of rod into the horn. You need to buy a fake skull plate from Research etc. You just drill holes in the skull plate and run the rods down into the skull. Then fill the bottom of the skull with Firberglass resin. So you want the rods long enough to go into the new skull as deep as you can without them protruding from the bottom. I usually make some sort of frame out of dowells to hold the antlers at the spread I want and to support it until the fiberglass dries. Then after it dries I fill any gap between the horn base and the skull with epoxy puddy.
