I mounted a pronghorn last week. Now I am noticing an oilysheen where the black patch/ scent gland is located. Some musk odor too. I am wondering if I can wait until the mount dries and then coat the area with kitti-Litter (or some other corn cob product) and soak up some of the oil off the hair. Will this work to get rid of the sheen and smell?

Well, I ran into the same problem when some "taxidermist" sent me a salted antelope cape. He failed to cut out the scent gland before salting it and sending it to me. Yee haaa. When I tanned it the tann held onto the iol and scent in the gland. Try using lemon oil to mask the scent. Tom Wieckum suggested that remedy. Good luck to you!
Even if the hide is salted, when you rehydrate or tan, you can still remove the glands.
Personally I would relax the mount, and pull the hide off and remove the gland and remount. The mount will stink forever, especially everytime it rains out. the humidity will make it smell.
Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but the glands really need to be removed.
