I looked through the archives and got some good ideas but, need some more opinions from you guys. I am new to taxidermy and saw some tags in either a Breakthrough or a Taxidermy Today Magazine. Right now I can't find the issue. Anyway, I am thinking of using some sort of tag instead of hide punching for sending to the tannery. Can I get some more opinions on this subject? Thanks alot!

Tags get lost, torn, or faded (some tanneries don't allow them and remove them prior to tanning), punch marks are forever.
I tryed those write on metal tags they suck! They fell completely apart during the tanning process. luckly I new what was what and who's was who's. Jack F
I double punch capes on each side of the neck and put a small round #ed plastic tag at the base of the turned ears with a hog ring; available from Jonas Bros. I just double punch hides on each side of the tail. i keep the #s and notes on each hide and cape in a log book plus on the invoices. Even with all that I seem to manage to have at least one cape mixed up every year because I hire part time high school aged fleshing help in the fall at minumum wage and get what I pay for! Oh well, it always seem to work out dispite me,.. I mean them :)
but I use simple livestock tags fastened to the cartilage on my ears using plastic zip ties. Number to correspond with my records on the front, my shop name on the backside. Haven't had one lost yet.
