first caribou

a friend of mine is going to alaska for a caribou hunt and wants me to mount it when he returns.questions? 1.whats the best way to get the cape home.can it be frozen then fed x'd to my house? 2.is fleshing pretty much the same as a whitetail(thats all i've done so far) i hit the orange button for two hours and read about the possible bug larvae? in the skin,but does it flesh the same otherwise,turn ears ,lips, nose etc. 3. any good reference out there to buy for such critter. thanks

But if he doesn't know how to turn ears and split lips and salt a hide properly, I wouldn't recommend it. Have him find a taxidermist at his drop off point and contact him (or her) to prep the hide and ship it for him. That's the SAFEST way.

Thin skinned critters.

They are very thin skinned animals that require a softer touch then most deer. I had done one that came from Alaska the customer brought it back with him salted. The outfitter done a great job turning everything and it was in prime shape when it got to me. If this is not an option I would do what George suggested. Jack F
