I've dried a rattler's skin with pickling salt and alum, first is this an acceptable way to dry the skin? Second, how long will take to dry completely in shaded but hot/humid weather, and lastly, is there a common oiling agent I could use to soften the skin rather than ordering tanning product. Call me cheap.
