I just wanted to encourage the guys/gals out there that do taxidermy part-time....if you do decent work, charge the going rate that the local full-time guy is charging! Charging %50 rates..... $95 dollar ducks/$200 deer for example....is only cheating yourself AND the full-time guy out of work and money. YES I do run a part-time shop, but YES I DO charge full-time prices and have more than enough work!

whether you do this part time or full time you should get paid for your work. Your supplies are still going to cost you the same whether you do 20 deer a year or 200. Just because you don't do taxidermy 40 hours plus a week doesn't mean you are worth less.

Most likely anyone doing taxidermy part-time is doing it on their off time from their full time job.Your off time is your own free time to do as you see fit.To give up your free time to do taxidermy work, is still work.I consider it to be over time.Would you work overtime at your full time job for half salary?
I have a full time job and do taxidermy part time. I tell people that think I charge to much that I'm doing it because I love to. That consider it an art, and I don't rely on their money to live on. Because of that I take as much time and care and use the very best supplies and techniques I can to insure the very best mount my abilities can give. Isn't that better than being the "Walmart" of taxidermy?

But I love doing taxidermy and being away from my family, seeing the kids grow up. Well shoot I hate all the family crap so I only charge $225.00 for a deerhead, it keeps me out of the house and busy too.
This way the old lady can't bitch at me! I get to go in after midnite and she is already asleep so I don't have to do those manly duties.

Well the 10 year old has a cavity, I can't afford to take him to the dentist. I have a Dremal tool, and a soldering gun, should I use resin based solder or acid based? I am gonna have to tie the kid up guuden tight, he is a fighter. The last one I had to knock out with my ball peen hammer and wood chisel.
Jimmy Jo needs some new shoes, but I done spent the deposits on some food for the kids, Peanut butter and grape jelly! I tell them to close there eyes and pretend its ham and eggs.
I recon that thing about using a bottle of coke as a birth control method just dont work, cuse we used it with and later the kids ur borned.

Anyways dos any of ueins neid sum help? My folks all say I is purty gud at this here taxidermy, I read a book ands it simple. Jest rubs sum of that thar boraxo on that skin and its fine. Do's any of yas knoo hows to fix them cracks behind those eeys? Can I use wood puty, its purty good for thangs.

Just think, I charge $475.00 and up for a deer shoulder mount and $2,500 for lifesize deer and another grand for bears. I take my wife to Hawaii every year, Mexico every year and the kids (3) off to there favorite camp in the summer and Disneyworld in the summer on our 2 week vacation. Charge for who you are and you to can have fun in this life. If you are not doing $200,000 gross a year, look for a new job. We all know the work is out there if you get off your lazy ass and go get it.
