Hi
Will using dry preservative be sufficient for preserving a muskrat skin like it would be on a squirrel skin or should it be tanned prior to mounting? I have never done a muskrat and know that they are a bit oily.

I recently mounted a muskrat using DP and it turned out beautifully. Let me make a few recommendations.
1. After washing the skin, soak it in a degreaser, such as Mineral Spirits, or one of the degreasers available from the supply houses.
2. Make or buy a reproduction tail. You can skin and mount them, but a repro looks so much better.
