Help wanted with hard hides

Hey all, A customer brought me four beaver hides and one coyote that he trapped a year ago and wanted them tanned and broke. He cleaned them up pretty good and dried them. I re-hydrated them for a few hours then put into the pickle. They've been in the pickle a week now. The coyote is softening up pretty good and I think I can shave it. The beaver pelts are still pretty stiff. Did I screw up? Is it to late to use a relaxer? (I would have to order some as I don't have any on hand). If so, should I neuetralize first then relax, then pickle again? Well, you get the idea. Any help you experienced guys, and gals could give me would be appreciated. Thanks, Carl

thats what happens when skins are air dried. they should be salted when fresh to extract all that fat and moisture that dries into the skin and leaves them hard. they should be fine in pickle untill softened.
