They are using DP, in most cases, and dont care about quality.
The quicker in the freezer or tanned the better your chances.
How do you know what the thoughts of "some taxidermist" are? Why don't you ask "them" why they "leave deer heads laying out not frozen just left out instead of freezing a couple days." Sounds like a fabricated question. Maybe they know what can be, and what can't be left out just from experience? Maybe the weather is cold enough? You judge them careless, but two posts before this one, you pull a gobb of hair out of a frozen cape.
But to answer you're question, Getting it to the freezer is the best practice. But getting it there is sometimes difficult if the workload is high.
What do you mean " They are using DP and don't care about quality"
Your method is NOT the only method that can produce quality results.
I've gotten a few deer in one night and I didn't want to stay up all night caping them out. I'm,of course, speaking of shoulder mounts that were already skinned with only the head left in. I feel safe if proper field care seems evident and the temperature is BELOW 40! Something for beginners to remember is life starts at 40. That means bacterial growth is more probable any hotter than that. One more thing John. What do you mean when you say cooler? Are you referring to a processers freezer? Peace- Jeff F.
