What can I do to keep scales from popping off crappie when I am skinning one out. Thanks

You cannt skin a crappie with the same tools you use for a bass.

Delicate is the word respect the crappie for that.


Soaked in Alcohol

The last 3 crappie I did, I took them straight out the freezer and put them in a container of regular white rubbing alcohol. I let them stay there until the first one was thawed enough to start skinning. This helped a lot, it was an experiment, but I had minimal scale loss, actually none on the show side. Like the post above, ...take your time and think about what you are doing, especially to the effect of the other side of the skin. Tommy
