rough fleshing question

Submitted by chevy on 11/23/04 at 3:09 PM. ( ) 199.125.14.2

I wanted to know if I understood this right I turned the ears, lips eyes, and nose and took the large portions of meat off the cape and put it in Krowtan. Is that considered rough fleashing?

I am not a taxidermist bay any means. I am going to taxidermy school in the spring and I am a trapper. When you guys flesh a hide do you take all of the fat and grissle off as well as the meat? I have always been taught to remove ALL of the fat and grissle.

Take off everything

the more you take off the better. Take all the meat, fat, mucus off that you can. You have been taught right Mike.

I used to trap before the commies banned it here in Colorado. I did not flesh my pelts as good as I flesh my capes. General fleshing, yes, but with taxidermy you really need to concentrate on the face around the muzzle, eyes, lips, and the worst spot, the chin! Those are areas you can avoid on a pelt.

Why not ask Ozark Woods?

Why dont you ask Ozark Woods instead of posting here? They make Krowtan - it makes sense to ask the manufacturer - or doesnt it? Obviously they have conducted tests that would prove this out. Dont they send instructions on how to use it? Take the time to contact them!
