The other day, I shot a squirrel. I had no idea how to skin it. I came from the jaw to the tail. I'm pretty sure that's not right because the spine wouldn't seperate from the skin and I ended up cutting through the fur. So my question is: What is the easiest way to skin a squirrel?

What do you want to do? Are you just skinning it for the meat? Are you skinning it cause you have a purpose for hide and if so what do you want to do with the hide? Answer those questions and one of us can give you a more specific answer. Thanks.
..of mount you wish to do.
For climbing mounts, Ventral cut from chest to anus.
For sitting, walking, and standing mounts, use either a dorsal or a cased cut. Dorsal down the back, and cased between the two back legs.
For the tail, make no cuts, buy a tail skinner from one of the supply companies, and strip the tail off the bone.
Now if you want more information, and more on mounting, there is a TON of info regarding squirrels in the Archives. I made a post several years ago on mounting squirrels that should still be there somewhere...
I would like to tan the hide of the squirrel and please remember that I am only a beginner and don't know much of anything.
Thanks.
I have the same problem, and the same objective. I'm a beginner and I'm just not exactly sure of the right way to go about doing it.
If you are wanting to mount a small game animal such as a squirrel your best bet is to freeze the animal whole, then order a kit from a company like Van Dykes Supply. It will come with instructions for skinning and the rest of the mounting process, along with the materials needed to complete the mount.
