I need some real infomation on how to tan, soften and preserve my deer hide,well really my husbands deer hide.
What to use and directions on how to do it.

if I were you I would send those hides to a reputable tannery. you can look up some tanneries on the taxidermy.net home page. Hershey Fur in Pennsylvania does buckskin leather tanning which would be suitable for your moccasin project.
If you are new to tanning and preserving a deerhide you are not going to be able to do this yourself. Maybe your local taxidermist can prep the cape and tan it up for you. In the meantime make sure it is in the freezer so it won't spoil.
