I am a little confused when it comes to measuring whitetails with big necks.
My Van Dykes Catalog calls for the A, B and C measurement while the McKenzie catalog call for A, B, C and D.
I have noticed that A, B and C are generally all that is required unless I have a buck with a huge neck. If I am using Van Dykes forms only, how will I ever do the buck justice if the D measurement is not included? I am sure that most deer will work fine, but I took in three bucks with huge D measurements.
I know, just order McKenzie forms. What about the Van Dykes forms?....or the Rinehart forms that only require the A and B measurement?
Am I missing something?
Here is an example.........I've taken in several deer this year that have a D measurement in the 22 to 24 inch range. I also took in three that have D measurements ranging from 26 to 28. The 28 inch deer actually has a small B & C compared to some of the smaller bucks.
If I was to order a form for the 28" buck, but only measured A, B & C....I'm thinking I would have a loose cape on the form.
Does this make sense?
