? about dec. braid

Submitted by Justin on 11/27/04 at 11:28 AM. ( ) 152.163.100.204

I have done several antler mounts this year, and have never used decrorative braid on the burrs. I normally just fold the leather nicely around. This may sound stupid to some, but I want to know the best way to attach the braid the burr with no fraying or visible seams. Searched the archive and didn't find what i need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Braid

Wrap the end of the braid twice with clear scotch tape and with a sharp knife cut through the tape close to the edge of the tape. The tape will hold the frays in place. With a hot glue gun, put a dab on the end of the braid to seal the frays together. Then wrap around the burr to find the length you need, then tape the second end, cut and melt seal. I hot glue the braid to the burr as I wrap the braid around it. And hide the seam on the back side glueing the ends together.

Be sure

That when you cut through the tape, that you only leave a thin band of tape to hold the braid form fraying. I leave this on, or you can take it off if you seal the frays nicely with hot glue.

thank you

Fray Stop, you can get it in fabric stores. But basically the procedure is about the same as Mr.T's. BP

I know your talking about useing leather but have you used flocking? It does a great job and there are absolutly no seams anywhere to worry about, plus it's cheap and fast. Just a thought.
