I have been interested in learning this art for some time. Does anyone know of a taxidermist in the Harrisburg, PA area who would be willing to train? I am not looking to get paid, just to work with a pro to gain experience and learn the art. I have thought of just jumping in myself, but am afraid to get started without seeing a pro at work and learning the proper way. Thanks.

Rich I just got into the art of Taxidermy This past spring. I got started by buying how to videos. Then I just started mounting my buddies deer and turkeys for free after the fist few that turnned out great I might add I went out and got buiness cards made out and now have mounted over 10 deer this year. I am only charging a little over equipment cost to keep from having to esablish a buisness until next year but things are going great and it is relaxing for me to come home from a job I hate and do Taxidermy.I had to save up about $5,000 for equipment thats with a tumbler and a fleasher Dakota V a great purcess for the money.Anyway just so encuregment for you good luck with what ever you do.
Go For It,DOUG
Doug,
thanks for the words of encouragement. After reading the numerous posts in the forums, I decided to buy Sallie's whitetail video and jump in. Once the video gets here, I will have to buy some supplies. Would it be better to look for some good used tools, or buy new ones? Thanks again for your response.
