I'm going to mount two life-size muskox but unsure of how exactly to prep the horns (boss)Where do I start and what all do I need to do to mount these? Should they be boiled to remove the horns? paining? chemicals? Any and all info anyone can share would be great. Thank you!

dont even bother to pull the horns. send both skulls out to be
bug cleaned. when you get them back, submerge the skull in h2o2
10-15 mins. then let them dry for a month. use epoxy to repair the bosses if need be. Personally, if you dont know how to take care
of someones trophy, you shouldnt take it.

You are doing Muskox life size and do not know where to start? Well you will only get flack from this site. You better get video's on how to do them from start to finish. Why are you doing such a big project with no knowledge on how to do it?

I forgot to mention that I have mounted several animals but never any that needed special care/work on the horns before. Also why should I get flack for asking this question? If you noticed I posted in "BEGINNERS" If those who are new to the Taxidermy buisness can not ask questions form those who have been doing it for years then what kind of a web site is this? I'd like to think that there are those willing to share there experience and knowledge with those of us who may need it. I try to help anyone anytime I can. Thank you to those who are willing to help. Thank you!

It would be impossible to remove the horns - the skulls need to be boiled and bleached. YOu will have to find hair of matching color to replace hair that was between the bosses

just did search

I just did a search on muskox horns. It seems that boiling can cause big problems like cracking and chipping. beetles seem to be the answer but I do not know of anyone in Canada that has them. I live in Manitoba so if anyone knows of someone who does in Canada then please let me know. The other method I read of was maggots. It's kinda cold here know and there are really no flies to be found to lay eggs for maggots so that may be outta the question unless I wait untill spring and that to is outta the question. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all again for your help.
