Can you use non-iodized cattle mixing salt to salt your hides? If not what is the best type to get? I have been getting it from WASCO but the shipping is outrageous. Thanks!

Salt is salt

Some rock salt contains other chemicals and shouldn't be used. The cattle salt is fine, table salt is fine - even iodized salt will work in a pinch. I use kosher salt a lot, but only on circumcised animals.

That's how many posts have been made to the question of "tanning salt" when you click the orange SEARCH icon. Probably about half of them contain the same answers that are printed above.
