I'm full of questions tonight!
I am having a hard time getting the ph of my tanning solution to stabilize. I am using EZ tan and it should be at a ph of 4 but mine won't go below 4.5. No matter how hard I try! Is this going to make a difference in my finished product? Or is that close enough?

You say "no matter how hard I try", but wht does that mean? What have you done so far? What are you using to measure your PH? Paper? What's the range of your paper? 0-6? Are you adding anything else besides acid as you go? What kind of acid are you using? Is your PH fluctuating or just stuck at 4.5? Need to know what's up to help.
Yeah I know I was pretty vague, it was late and I was tired and frustrated and just looking for some magical advise.
The mixture I used was:1 gallon H20,1 oz EZtan- 8 oz salt.
Then I used papers in the range of 2.5-5.5 and it was all over the map first too high so I added pickle and then too low so I added some Sodium Bicarbonate. But I went to check it this morning and VOILA it was perfect so I guess after lots of concocting I finally got it right. Thanks for responding so quickly. Next time I will be sure to be much more specific.
Till next time.........Tracy
Didn't seem like something that couldn't be quickly resolved. BUT you still don't know what the problem was in the first place right? Which leads me to believe that you could encounter this again. With the new info you just gave I'm guessing that you may have been trying to compensate up and down the PH scale by applying too much remedy at once and the sauce didn't have a chance to catch up to you. So by the time it reacted you had already added even more of say acid and shot it up too high or soda and shot it down too low. Try going slower and bit at a time next time and check for change in your PH. Also understand that your PH will usually drop a little a short while after you first put your skin in the sauce. But once you raise it back to the right level the second time it stays where you need it to be thereafter. UNLESS there's something about EZ tan thats different? I've never used the stuff. I'm only speaking from the angle of PH management in general.
