Squirrel in the freezer...

Hello,

I just got my first squirrel, he has been double bagged in zip-lock freezer bags and is currently in the freezer until I have time to skin him in a few days.

Should I have cleaned the blood of his fur and around his nose, before putting him in the freezer or can that be cleaned off after I thaw and skin him? I shot him with a pellet gun in the back of the head and he bled a fair bit from the nose.

Thanks

it will be fine just the way it is. After you skin it out you can use some Dawn and clean it up.

As the wife of a taxidermist with his own buisness, I can tell you, with no experince whatsoever...that the soaking of a hide in the it's own blood takes no more than a nice bath in dish water or Tide soap mixture. Clean as a whistle.
Sincerely,
The unexperienced wife of a licensed professional taxidermist.
Having fun,
Goodluck
