freezing rehydrated dry tan skin

A buddy gave me two tanned elk capes that have been sitting around for a year or so. Can I sweat these, do the final shaving around the lips, nose, eyes and then freeze? I know I should mount right after this, but just wondering if I could freeze it without hurting it.
