My Father in Law died not long ago and had a set of Long horns mounted. My wife wants them for a keepsake. The problem is if she is telling me correctly she believes they are six to eight foot across. I'm in Michigan and the horns are in Riverside California and I was wondering if the horns can be pulled out of the leather to be packed side by side and I could reassemble here or if they would have to be cut. I don't know how these are mounted never seen a long horn here in Michigan.
Thanks Bill

If they were done PROPERLY, they won't come off or if they do, they'll likely damage the horn casings. I had an old set that had simply been nailed to a large wooden dowel. I'd have someone unwrap the leather and make sure that they were on a piece of the skull. If not, then just cut the dowel and when you get them, you can replace it and fix the horns.
She hasn't lived there for about thirty years I'm thinking they looked a lot biger when she was a kid. But I don't know anything about the critters so I didn't know how big they can get.
We live in TN and we have some with 7 foot horns makes it rough to work in a cattle shute.
That are five to six feet and I know of some in southern Utah that are larger than that. Look funny trying to walk threw gates. They tip their heads sideways and walk threw and drag the other horn threw.
